April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to have medals won at many Olympics. In Tokyo during the coming days she'll be aiming to win her third gold medal along with first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross would like to do more than her first Olympic medal. As she is 39, it could be her last chance to get it done. But she's convinced that top honours are within reach. Ross stated to NBC Boston that he believes that if the team plays their most effective, and even play an excellent game, we will win the gold. Then I will also take the chance to have luck. Ross was born on the 22nd, 1982 on the outskirts of Costa Mesa California. She was raised there by her parents. When she was at Newport Harbor High School, she was a participant in many activities. Apart from indoor volleyball, she played basketball and ran track while an athlete in the pre-professional stage. She was definitely the top at the sport of indoor volleyball. According to her bio, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle hitter on the volleyball court during her high-school career. The effort was recognized with her selection as the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. In 2000, she was awarded the Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman began their partnership in 2017, however Ross has been a prominent athlete on the beach for a long time before. In reality, she was the winner of numerous major events with two different teams, one of which is famous for her volleyball skills. From 2007 to 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is currently her coach. Together with Kessy Ross, she won an Olympic Title in 2009 when she competed on the international circuit. In 2012, the team won silver at London's Olympics. They were beaten out for the gold by the famous team consisting of Misty June-Treanor and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The pair went on to take home the bronze medal for beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross was a college player with the Trojans of USC prior to the start of her professional career. The Trojans were during high school, as well as in the years before hitting the beach as a professional. Her time at USC was exceptional. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA All-American Freshman of Year awards and earned an All-American. In 2000, her Trojans also reached the Final Four. After her sophomore year, she suffered a devastating personal loss and still was successful in being named an All-American. For her two final years she led the Trojans to the top of the mountain and won consecutive national titles. She was a great athlete, winning the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female college volleyball player. Ross took a course in internationally-related studies at USC. Sadly, Ross mother Margie was not able to witness her daughter rise to the top levels of beach volleyball stardom. When Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother passed away due to cancer of the breast. She still cherishes her mother who died. Margie continues to be an inspiration at the beach as well as throughout her entire life.
